Repair Cafe Movement.
Repair Café is an international movement that started in the Netherland over 15 years ago. There are over 2,500 world wide , over 60 in Australia. Local community groups provide services that promote repair as an alternative to tossing things out. People can bring along their broken items from home and then work together with the volunteer repair experts to save an item from going to landfill. Items that can be saved often include clothes, furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, crockery, appliances, toys, et cetera. More details are available at www.repaircafe.org).
Repair Cafe Bellarine.
Repair Cafe Bellarine, started operating in Ocean Grove in 2017 and was steadily growing community support until the COVID 19 Pandemic forced it into recess. Operation started up again in July 2024 running once a month. Run a group of around 30 volunteers with a diverse range of skills. And again community support has been quite strong.
Our Goals.
Make better use of the resources we have and reduce waste by extending the life of the things we use day to day.
To inform people of the benefits of repairing rather than replacing and encourage them to get involved in doing the repair.
